OUR PHILOSOPHY

Clients often come presenting with what they consider to be a core issue. It might be anxiety, depression, trouble in a relationship, an addictive or compulsive behaviour, or childhood trauma. Whatever the issue, we believe underlying patterns of thought, feeling and behaviour exist which originated long ago. Starting in childhood, these patterns begin to emerge and by adolescence, these same patterns can be understood in ways that have become maladaptive. Such patterns interfere with one's ability to function effectively and be happy in life and what we consider to be core systems. Here is the good news! If we can uncover and explore them, we can help to change them.

For us, the most significant meaning behind the concept of CORE, is that we have the hope of helping our clients connect with the core essence of themselves - whether this is something that was never really developed, or somehow lost along the way. Once found, a person begins to live their authentic self, true happiness and fufillment in all areas of life may follow.

To think about this differently, this is about our brains and how healthy they are. It makes sense then to refer to health issues related to our brain as brain health - just as we would with any organ in our body. We have no problem talking about or addressing heart health, lung health, or digestive health. When it comes to our brains however, the stigma remains that there is a weakness in the self whereby we perceive ourselves as vulnerable in the eyes of others. By means of psychotherapy, the brain becomes more healthy. New 'wiring' and chemical changes occur that lend to understanding our life experiences differently and contribute to new ways of being with self and others that are more adaptive.
